The forest and heathland De Bunt is freely accessible. The pipe straw gives De Bunt a golden yellow glow every autumn and winter. Here and there you can still see a tuft of heather, which betrays that mainly heather used to grow here. The area is now very swampy. Pines and birches try to grab some sunlight, causing them to exhibit erratic growth. Various trees show that parts of the forest have been used as coppice forest. The tree was then cut down just above the ground, so that it could make new life. The Bunt consists largely of historic marshland: swampy, swampy area with which large parts of the
the Gelderse Vallei was once covered.
