"Hope for Better" Ingen

Op Hoop Van Beter is a smock mill built in 1893 for grinding grain and is located at Kerkpad 7 in Ingen. The present mill was built in 1893 and replaced a ground mill that did not have enough wind capture due to its height. Therefore, it was decided to build a tall smock mill. However, in 1922, grinding with wind power ended, and a motor was put into operation; the sails, the smock, and the cap were dismantled. After intervention from the local population, the mill was restored to its original condition starting in 1983 and was put back into use in 1985. The interior, the sail system, the cap, and the smock have been completely newly added. The wooden cap, covered with roofing felt, is hoisted with the help of an English hoisting system. Cap and beard. The sail cross is of old Dutch style. The mill also has a new cast iron upper shaft from 1983, numbered 4 from the Nijmegen foundry. The mill is braked with a Flemish brake with a wipstok. Around the crown wheel is a wooden hoop where the brake blocks act on the braking. The grain is ground with a pair of grinding stones made of artificial stone. There is also a bolter for sifting the flour and a bruising machine for bruising the grain before it is ground on the grinding stones. The bags of grain are hoisted with a hoisting mechanism.
