"The Hope" Lunteren

The windmill De Hoop is located on Dorpsstraat in Lunteren. It is an eight-sided ground sailer, thatched and built in 1855, with a span of 24.00 meters. The mill has two pairs of artificial stones. In earlier times, the mill had three. In the early years of the mill, the stones were located one floor higher than they are now, but it soon became clear that the mill was too lightly built for this. The sails are dressed in Old Dutch style. The 4.50 m long, cast iron upper shaft from the manufacturer Prins van Oranje 's-Hage dates back to 1867 and is weighted at the pin with a chain to prevent sagging. The number of the shaft is 462. The sails are made by Derckx and were manufactured in 1972. Wooden wearing pieces surround the upper wheel to catch the mill. The brake is a Flemish brake. The mill is braked with a white/blue painted brake stick. The cap of the mill turns on iron rollers in wooden roller carriages. Originally, the rollers were made of wood, which often broke. The cap is turned with a cap wheel. The tail of the mill was removed due to its poor condition. In the past, an extra long beam made of oak was placed in the cap because it turned heavily. This extra long beam was replaced in 2004 with a shorter one made of bilinga, which was replaced during the restoration of 2010/2011 with a long beam made of oak. The hoisting mechanism for raising the milling goods consists of a slewing mechanism.
