Rheden is a municipality in the Dutch province of Gelderland. The municipality has 43,476 residents and covers an area of 84.29 km². The municipality is named after the place Rheden, one of its cores, and lies east of Arnhem. The Veluwe serves as the northern border and the IJssel as the southern border. The villages are situated like a belt in this strip between forest and river. The territory of the municipality includes on one side the moraine, hills, forests, heathlands, and streams of the Veluwezoom and on the other side the IJssel valley with the floodplains designated as a Natura 2000 area.
