Colmschate is a village and district in the east of the city of Deventer, province Overijssel with about 16,000 inhabitants. In Colmschate, archaeological research has found the remains of a Germanic settlement from Roman times. Rare Roman coins of Carausius and Allectus have been found for the Netherlands, a decorated bronze fitting of a buckle and a bronze fitting of a horse harness. These finds suggest that one or more men who lived here at the end of the third century had returned from the Roman army in which they had served for years as professional soldiers. A brass statuette of the goddess Victoria found in Colmschate has served as a building sacrifice.
