Jonkersvaart is a village located along the canal of the same name in the municipality of Westerkwartier in Groningen and has about 225 inhabitants. The rural area around Jonkersvaart has 248 inhabitants. As early as 1765, there is mention of the "jonkersgruppel," a waterway for the drainage of water during peat extraction. Around 1780, peat extraction received a new impetus under Jonker Ferdinand Folef von Innhausen und Kniphausen and his wife Anna Maria Graafland, who had a navigable canal constructed. This Jonker is credited with the names of the canal and the village. The Graveland district is named after Anna Maria Graafland, a neighborhood that connects to Jonkersvaart via the Zandwijk.
