The village originated around the potato flour factory De Woudbloem, which was founded in 1904. After the factory closed in 1967, the number of inhabitants decreased to more than a hundred. Woudbloem forms a close-knit community with a flourishing association life. After the 100th anniversary in 2004, a work of art was placed along the Scharmer Ae in 2005 with the emblem of the village: a four-leaf clover.
