Blauwestad is a large-scale development project in the eastern part of the province of Groningen. The area is located in the municipality of Oldambt in the eponymous region, roughly between the towns of Winschoten, Beerta, Midwolda, Oostwold, Finsterwolde, and Scheemda. The project also includes the residential core of Blauwestad, which now has around 800 inhabitants. The aim of the plan was to improve the livability of the region. Both the planning and execution have faced various setbacks. The final project deviates in several respects from the initial plans, and completion will take place much later than initially thought.
