Loenen is the 'pearl of the Vechtstreek'. The village originated in the 13th century at Kronenburg Castle and until the construction of post-war new housing estates consisted only of the buildings along the Dorpsstraat. The village has no less than 144 national monuments! On the left you see the park of country estate Oud Over, on the right monumental houses and beautifully overgrown gardens. Overgardens are front gardens that are just across the road. They can only be found in Vreeland and Loenen.
The tower of the Gothic church dates from 1525 and rises high above the roofs. It stands 80 cm out of the lead, almost a Dutch tower of Pisa.
