The Tin Bucket

This pole with bucket is of historical significance for the Stippelberg Estate. When this area was not yet forested, the wind had free rein. Drifting sand was carried away and deposited. The highest hills ended up here and more than a hundred years ago one of those hills was used as a lookout hill. A pole was placed on it.
During a forest fire, forester Peerke van den Einde rushed to the pole on the drifting hill and climbed in to see where the fire was. The bucket to scoop water into the nearby watering meadow was immediately available. This allowed the fire to be extinguished quickly.
Later, the pole was given another function: the bucket was moved up or down with a rope to indicate the start and end times of the work for the workers.
The first pile was renewed in 1945. Fifty years later, in May 1995, the current, restored pole was placed on the initiative of the Local History Society and the IVN Bakel-Milheeze-Rips.
