The Oostendorper Watermolen on the Buurserbeek near Haaksbergen is a double, water-powered mill with 3 underlay wheels. Downstream on the left bank is the oil mill with one wheel and on the right bank is a grist mill with two wheels. The foundations consist of Bentheimer sandstone. The watermill was commissioned by Charles V and was completed in 1548 and put into use. However, the current location was not so well chosen because the mill soon suffered from underwashing. In 1584 both mills were destroyed by acts of war between State and Spanish troops. In 1633 Willem Ripperda tot Weldam received permission to rebuild the Oostendorper mill and he did so on the current site. The mill has often been restored in the centuries since. At the end of the restoration in 1988, the mill was officially put into operation and the mill is milling and open to the public.
