Amstelrust has been a country house in Amsterdam at Amsteldijk 319 since the 17th century, slightly south of the Rozenoordbrug and is a national monument. The access gate Amstelrust is separately classified as a national monument. Around 1724, this estate was built on the orders of Jan Steur. He died in 1728, after which the house passed to his heirs. These sold the house along with the associated park in 1730. The later owner, Arnoldus Ameshoff, specified in his will from 1782 that Amstelrust could not be altered or demolished for thirty years after his death. Should his heirs violate this, 15,000 guilders would have to be given to the poor of Amsterdam. This has probably contributed to the preservation of this house in its original state.
