Sassenhein is a private nature reserve in the municipality of Groningen, located south of the village of Haren. The area consists of two peat lakes, the North and South Lake. There is a pavilion by the North Lake. The lakes are particularly popular with fishermen and nature enthusiasts. They are situated between the higher areas of the Hondsrug and the Hoornsediep, in a raised bog area that was formed approximately 6000-3000 years ago in the floodplain of the Drentsche Aa.
