Prince Willem-Alexander Bridge

Source: Gilbert van Schoonbekepad / De Wandelmaker

Once built to improve the accessibility of the Land van Maas and Waal towards Tiel. And because shipping on the Waal became increasingly busy, the ferry Tiel -Wamel could not be expanded. In June 1974 the bridge was opened and quickly became known as the bridge from 'nothing to nowhere'. There was no planned extension of the road to Eindhoven. Tolls were levied until 1996. The bridge is the only one in the Netherlands that has the same construction as the Morandi Bridge in Genoa, which collapsed in 2018. According to experts, the cable-stayed concrete construction is in excellent condition!
