In 1815 an inundation fan lock with an earthen battery was constructed in the Lekdijk near Goilberdingen. In 1848, the battery was upgraded to a fortress. Later, the inundation system was optimized and the fort was given four bomb-proof buildings. In peacetime, the dike road ran right through the fort, but was diverted in case of mobilization. In 1939, seven concrete shelters and two machine gun casemates were built on the fort. To the south of the fort is a high free-standing wall in a meadow. This 'bullet trap' is the remnant of a German shooting range.
