The spa house is now the Steigenberger Kurhaus Hotel. In 1818, Jacob Pronk founded a bathhouse. He had a wooden pavilion built for it. The Kurhaushotel was constructed on the same site between 1884 and 1885. After a severe fire, it was rebuilt between 1886 and 1887. It was designed by the German architects Johann Friedrich Henkenhaf and Friedrich Ebert. A variety of celebrities have stayed at the Kurhaus. The guestbook includes members of various royal families, heads of government, and artists. The Rolling Stones' first performance in the Netherlands took place at the Kurhaus in August 1964. It was to become a notorious concert.
In 1969, the Kurhaus, which had fallen into disrepair, was closed and then rebuilt. It was given monument protection in 1975.
After the reconstruction, the Kurhaus reopened in 1979.
