The abbey Koningsoord is the only Trappistine abbey in the Netherlands. The abbey is located on Johannahoeveweg in Arnhem.
Koningsoord is a foundation of the Trappist abbey Koningshoeven, which was founded in 1881 near Tilburg. Among the family members who visited the monks were also girls who wanted to enter the order from time to time. The abbot then had to refer them to the abbey 'Notre Dame de la Paix' in Chimay, because there was no Trappistine abbey in the Netherlands. Over the years, about fifty Dutch girls joined. That number was sufficient to establish a monastery in the Netherlands.
