The Chapel in 't Zand is a parish church and pilgrimage site in the neighborhood of the same name in Roermond. The chapel was built in predominantly neo-Gothic style based on a design by architect Johannes Kayser. It served for a long time as the monastery church of the adjacent Redemptorist monastery. In 1418, the city council of Roermond commissioned the construction of a simple neighborhood chapel dedicated to Mary ‘outside the Black Bridge gates by the Sand’. This chapel housed a statue of Mary – first mentioned in 1578 – which became known for its answered prayers. Over time, the legend of Our Lady in 't Zand arose around this miraculous image. The answered prayers ensure that the chapel remains a well-known pilgrimage site to this day.
