Dolphia Monastery is a former monastery of the Order of Capuchins near the Dolphia district in Glanerbrug near Enschede. It was built from August 12, 1936 and was used as a monastery from 1937 to 1996. In 1999 the monastery was designated a national monument. The history of the Dolphia monastery begins with the foundation of a parish in the Dolphia district. This district was built around 1930 on the Gronausestraat in, what is now Enschede, but which then belonged to Lonneker. The Roman Catholic inhabitants of the Dolphia district were dependent on Glanerbrug for their religious activities. The parish priest of Glanerbrug then decided to establish an outpost in Dolphia, which resulted in the Bernadette Church, which was built in 1934. In the meantime, the Capuchin order was looking for a suitable place for a new monastery to be built. The choice fell on the Dolphia district. The financial problems of the parish will have played an important role in the choice of this site. The church and the house with a large piece of land were purchased. The Capuchins first moved into the house in front of the church, after which the construction of the monastery could start.
