Attack on railway bridge and traffic bridge
On September 20, a new attempt began to reach the traffic bridge, this time with an approach from the streets located more to the west of the bridge. Here, the Americans had more success and the German defense was pushed back to the hill at Valkhof, which is located next to the bridge. With heavy shelling and house-to-house fighting, the ramp to the Waal bridge was finally reached around six o'clock in the evening.
