Just south of Apeldoorn lies the Beekbergerwoud. Once the last primeval forest of the Netherlands, this former agricultural area is transforming nicely into a varied nature reserve where you can enjoy walking.
For about 8,000 years, the Beekbergerwoud remained untouched until the last tree was felled in 1871. An agricultural area with meadows and fields emerged. In 2006, Natuurmonumenten began restoring the area and is trying to bring back some of the fairy-tale wilderness.
