The country house Heerlijkheid on the Meentweg in Naarden was built in 1910 by order of the Amsterdam banker G.M. den Tex.
On the land on which Heerlijkheid was built stood the house of the gardener of Nieuw Valkeveen. The land and house were owned by the owner of the Oud Bussem estate, Joannes van Woensel Kooy. After his death in 1903, his widow sold the house and the land in 1907 to the Amsterdam banker Gideon Mari den Tex and his wife Anna Maria Boissevain. They had the house converted into a country house, according to a plan designed by Karel den Tex. Initially, the house was used by them as a summer house. After Den Tex's death in 1916, his widow settled permanently in the villa in 1917, where she lived until her death in 1924. The mansion then came into the possession of Professor D. van Hinloopen Labberton, rector of the nearby theosophical lyceum.
