Count Floris V van Muiden

Count Floris V van Muiden is a monumental building at Herengracht 72 in muiden, North Holland.

The corner building at the lock on the Vecht in Muiden has always had a catering function. In 1624 the construction of the sea lock of Muiden would have been discussed at this location in a combined meeting of the vroedschap of Muiden and the States of Holland and West Friesland.

The building has known several names, such as "The Duke of Guelders", the "Court of Holland" and "Count Floris V van Muiden". The current building dates from the 18th century.

Around 1875, the rear part of the building on the Naarderstraat was converted by the former châtelain into a stable for horses and carriages. From there, a connection was maintained with a diligence to Weesp station on the railway line from Amsterdam to Amersfoort.

Until 1934, the building served as a stop for the Gooische Stoomtram, aka the Gooische Moordenaar. As a reminder of this stop, a sandstone statue of the sculptor Jocke Overwater has been placed on the side façade of "Count Floris V of Holland".

Weather permitting, our beautiful terrace, located next to the Grote Zeesluizen on the river Vecht, is open from mid-April to mid-September. Here you can eat or drink all day and evening!
