The Oosterpoort is the only remaining city gate of Hoorn, located on the Draafsingel surrounding the inner city.
The tower was built in 1578 by Joost Jansz. Bilhamer and was topped with a small house in 1601. The gate is situated on the former defense moat "Draafsingel," which was dug in 1577. The wooden bridge that led to the gate was replaced in 1763 by the current masonry arch bridge with wrought iron gates.
