The Roman Catholic church is dedicated to St. Martin and HH. Boniface and Companions. The neo-Gothic church was built to a design by Pierre Cuypers. The church was the second of a total of seven neo-Gothic churches that he built in Friesland. In 1871 the construction of the three-aisled basilica cruciform church began, and in 1872, although not yet completed, the church was consecrated. The church was oriented to the east. As a result, the polygonal chancel was located on the Hoogstraat and therefore the bell tower was built - contrary to the usual - in the corner next to the choir and the south transept arm. This tower collapsed in 1874 but was rebuilt. On the west side there is another smaller tower. The crossing, the transept arms and the vaults of the nave are made of stucco. The church was completed in 1878. Restorations took place in the 1970s and 1980s. The church has been a national monument since 1976.
