Central Administration Building by Herman Hertzberger

The design by the Dutch architect Herman Hertzberger dates back to 1972 and is classified as structuralism. It was constructed from concrete and is characterized by the use of cube-shaped elements measuring nine by nine meters. Each element contains four to eight workspaces per floor. At the time, it was a revolutionary design, not only because of its exterior but also due to the open structure on the inside. It features several large office gardens. Furthermore, it has inner courtyards with balconies, bridges, and meeting places. This connects the workspaces both horizontally and vertically, creating a non-hierarchical atmosphere throughout the building. The design was inspired by Hertzberger's town hall designs for Amsterdam and Valkenswaard, which were never realized.
