In 1882 the parish of Schijf split off from those of Rucphen and Klein-Zundert. Like the mother church, this parish was dedicated to Saint Martin. In the same year a small church was completed that was designed by P.J. Soffers. Thanks to a donation, a small turret could also be built, but it blew over in 1914, during a storm. It was decided to build a new tower and also to enlarge the church. This work was completed in 1915 and in 1922 a tower clock and a clock were added.
