The John F. Kennedy Bridge is a traffic bridge over the river Meuse in the Dutch city of Maastricht. The bridge is named after John F. Kennedy, the president of the United States, who was assassinated in 1963.
Since the 1950s, there has been a desire in Maastricht to complete the planned ring road around the city center by constructing two bridges, a 'southern bridge' and a 'northern bridge'. The construction of the bridge and the adjoining Meuse Boulevard required a large part of the City Park to be removed. The character of the elegant Prince Bishop's Singel in the Villapark also changed significantly due to the new layout and the intensive traffic flows. The construction by the Rijkswaterstaat cost about 30 million guilders, of which the government paid 9.3 million.
