House De Torentjes

Huis De Torentjes is a partly 16th-century castle-like country house on the eastern flank of the Sint-Pietersberg in the former village of Sint Pieter, now part of the Dutch city of Maastricht. The house was built on the ruins of a medieval house from 1294 known as Bevors or Beaufort, after its then inhabitants. In the early 15th century, the house was destroyed and then rebuilt. In 1525, it was offered for sale by the then owner Arnold Creusen and came into the possession of Nicolaes Beyssel, canon of the Sint-Servaas Chapter. He had it renovated in early Renaissance style in 1526. Beyssel used the castle as a summer residence for hosting friends and artists and remained the owner until 1541. The castle was known as the Beyssel or Bisel tower well into the 18th century.
