Directly in front of the Kribbenbrug, to the right of the road, there is a monument in memory of the crew of a Royal Air Force bomber that crashed on 22 January 1944. The plane, a Halifax B-III, came back from a bombing raid on Maag-denburg. At 00.35 hours the bomber was shot at by a German night fighter that took off from Twente Air Base. The left wing broke off, the crew lost control and the plane crashed on the banks of the Dinkel. Two crew members were able to leave the aircraft in time and landed safely with their parachutes. They were taken prisoner by the Germans. The other five crew members were killed and buried in the Allied cemetery of the r.k. cemetery in De Lutte. (See also point 33). The memorial stone was placed on May 5, 1995 in the presence of a relative of a deceased crew member. A part of the Halifax has been placed in front of the stone.
