A stone's throw from 'Knooppunt Hoevelaken' with the busy A1 and A28, two special nature reserves have been set up here. Bloeidaal was founded in 2007 and De Schammer three years later.
The original vegetation of the streams in the Gelderse Vallei, flowery hay meadows, reed beds and swamp forests are given a new chance here along the Barneveldse Beek.
After the creation of Bloeidaal, the area immediately attracted many new bird species such as reed warbler, kingfisher and reed warbler. The new nature in De Schammer is now also attracting birds.
When water levels are high in the streams of the Gelderse Vallei, the water from the streams can be let into these areas. This is how the residents of Amersfoort keep their feet dry, and the Vallei en Eem Water Board will take care of that. The nature in both these areas is in good hands with the Utrechts Landschap. In addition to nature, De Schammer will also have a more recreational function.
