This stream is fed by spring water around Woudenberg and from streams from the slopes of the Gelderse Vallei. The stream is approximately 8 km long and flows from Woudenberg to Amersfoort where it enters the city at the water gate Monnikendam. Amersfoort was founded at the point where several streams converge and flowed as the river De Eem towards the Zuiderzee. The Heiligenberger Beek makes a significant contribution to this. The stream is named after the Heiligenberg estate located between Leusden and Amersfoort.
