The estate was previously called Heggeholt and was first mentioned in the year 1728. In 1848 the estate was bought by writer and poet Johannes Kneppelhout. He had the park redeveloped and a new mansion built. At the country house, Kneppelhout received many artists whom he supported financially. As a result, it became a breeding ground for up-and-coming talent. Gerard Bilders, David Artz, Jan de Graan, Cornelis Johannes Eggink, Otto Scholderer, Petrus Augustus de Génestet were welcomed to the estate as his protégés. During the war, the mansion suffered a lot of damage and was demolished. A maternity hospital was then established on the estate, which was eventually demolished. Of the original buildings, only the orangery, an old gardener's house and the coach house remain.
