Rotterdam-Zuid encompasses the part of Rotterdam located south of the Nieuwe Maas. Rotterdam-Zuid has approximately 240,000 inhabitants, including the administrative areas of Charlois, Feijenoord, and IJsselmonde. Traditionally, people refer to "down South." Originally, the city districts were only connected by bridges via the Noordereiland. For the rest, people relied on ferry services. Later, the Maastunnel was completed in 1942, and in the mid-sixties, the first Van Brienenoordbrug was added. Subsequent connections included the Willemsbrug and the Erasmusbrug. Since the Erasmusbrug was completed in 1996, developments in Rotterdam-Zuid have progressed rapidly. Thanks in part to the arrival of entities such as the Municipality of Rotterdam, the Port Authority, the Tax Office, the Court, InHolland University of Applied Sciences, Deloitte, and AKD, the Kop van Zuid has become a business district.
