De Bachtenaar is a seesaw mill with the postal address of the West Vlisterdijk 64a in Vlist, in the Dutch province of South Holland. The Bachtenaar is located on the territory of Bergambacht, but given its location and access to the West Vlisterdijk, it is often seen as part of Vlist. The mill dates from 1714 and replaced an earlier mill dating from 1487 on the same site. It was built to drain the Bergambacht polder on the Vlistboezem. This was done in a mill corridor consisting of two lower mills and an upper mill, in which the Bachtenaar was one of the two lower mills. The mill was in operation until 1946, with the exception of the period May 1939 to 1941. In 1961, the municipality of Bergambacht bought the mill, which was leased to the Oskam family. At that time, the mill was in a poor state of repair. The residents bought the mill in 1976 and restored the Bachtenaar in the following years. In the summer of 2009 the mill was sold by the Oskam family to new owners.
