Sibberhuuske

The Sibberhuuske or Villartshof is a castle farm located on the edge of the village of Sibbe that is part of the Dutch Limburg municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul. The building has been a national monument since 1967.

The history of the Sibberhuuske dates back to the 14th century. In 1381 it was mentioned as a grand fief of the lordship of Oud-Valkenburg. The 'Vielaertshoff' with more than 60 bunder of land was then elevated by one Willem van Hercke. In the same year, Hartelstein Castle was also elevated, with which the Vilaertshof appeared to have a connection for centuries. In the mid-15th century, the property was owned by the Horion-Van Tzevel couple, after which it passed to the lords of Ghoor, who used it as a schoutenhuis. The Van Ghoor family also owned the Hartelstein farm and Veljaeren Castle. The Villaertshof takes its name from the latter.
