Dorpstraat 78, Sibbe: The Sibberhuuske or Villiartshof
The Sibberhuuske, also called Villiartshof, partly dates from the 14th century. As a large fief of the Lordship of Oud-Valkenburg, it came to the Lords of Ghoor in the 15th century and served as a Schoutenhuis. In 1568, Maria van Ghoor supported Prince William of Orange in his plans for a campaign to Brussels against Regent Isabella of Castile, the daughter of Philip II. This led, on Archduke Alva's orders, to their banishment and confiscation from the House. Isabella gave it to the Barons of Billehê from Huy (Belgium).
In the 17th century, the Sibberhuuske came into the hands of General Van Volckershoven. His daughter marries a Huguenot in the State service, namely Jaques de Chalmot du Portal. It is their alliance coat of arms that adorns the entrance gate.
The Sibberhuuske is a national monument and is registered in Geneva on the International List of Protected Monuments.
