Jetty Eijsden-Ternaaien Ferry
From the ferry we have a view of the Meuse, which flows into the Netherlands here with Belgium on the other side. The Meuse is a border river. Parts along the Meuse have been returned to nature. This is also the case here at Eijsden. The gate on the north side gives access to the Eijsder Beemden hiking area, where you can stroll through nature. The Konik horses and the Galloway cattle take care of the paths. The banks of the Meuse contain many plants that are brought in from the south by the dynamic rain river, such as the sunflower-like Jerusalem artichoke. Reed warbler and reed bunting hide among the riparian vegetation. The river is also very important as a connecting route in the landscape for migratory birds, which is why we sometimes see the osprey passing by.
The quay that is supposed to hold back the high water at the foot of 't Bat with houses contains special plants, which do well on stony and poor environments, such as the ivy and the protected blue-coloured blue-coloured blue-coloured bluebell.
In the Diepstraat there are beautiful, more than 100-year-old pollarded lime trees. Here we pass on the left some beautiful patrician houses, formerly inhabited by well-to-do families of skippers and traders. A beautiful example is the building at Diepstraat 30-32, with its shutters. The property has a very wide façade whose windows and doors are framed with Namur stone. The left side of the building (also the oldest side) is crowned with a coat of arms.
