You can go here for a beautiful nature walk on the basis of a walking booklet 'Nature walk Eijsder Beemden', published by IVN Eijsden and can be viewed digitally via ivn.nl/eijsden.
In this nature development area of 75 ha. you can follow the spontaneous development of the landscape under the influence of the Meuse and of course grazing of Konik horses and Galoway cattle. The Meuse forms the border between Belgium and the Netherlands. In 2016, the Netherlands and Belgium implemented a border correction. The peninsula on the east side of the Meuse was annexed to the territory of the Netherlands in exchange for a smaller part on the west side of the Meuse (near the new locks of Lanaye / Ternaaien) that was annexed to Belgium.
This area is especially important for migratory birds as a foraging and resting place. This part of the municipality of Eijsden-Margraten, near the Maasplassen and marina, is especially attractive as a water recreation area.
