Café 't Sjterfhoes

Right next to the Great Church lies this café that is over 100 years old, exuding nostalgia with a wink to the present. It used to be a regular house, of which the front room, the bar room, has been furnished as a drinking establishment. That atmosphere still lingers.
History tells us that this was once the place where 'the skin was drowned'. Here, the deceased was remembered over a few glasses of beer. Another plausible story indicates that on the day before and on the day of funerals, neighbors would ring the bells and after that effort, enjoy well-deserved glasses of beer.
Nowadays, the 'glasses of beer' are still of perfect quality care, and guests can enjoy friendly conversation at the bar. The many holy images and the 'tabernacle' at the rear, from which beautiful specialty beers are tapped, refer to the unique location directly across from 'd’n Tore' of Sittard.
