The Redemptorist Monastery Wittem is a monastery in the village of Wittem. The monastery is known as a place of pilgrimage of Saint Gerardus Majella and Our Lady of Perpetual Help. The monastery and the monastery church, located diagonally opposite Wittem Castle, are both national monuments.
Saint Gerardus Majella was beatified by Pope Leo Xlll in 1893 and has been venerated alongside Mary in Wittem ever since. This veneration made Wittem an important place of pilgrimage from the 1920s onwards.
There is also a monastery bookshop with a wide range of books in the field of spirituality and philosophy of life and a world shop. In addition, there is an extensive activity program and there are weekly guided tours. Every year, more than a hundred thousand people visit the pilgrimage site.
