The Rothemermolen is one of the two water mills on the Geulke, a tributary of the Geul. The mill, which was already mentioned in 1381, was owned by the Lords of Vaeshartelt but changed hands many times during its existence. Until around 1885, the mill was used for oil pressing. At that time, it was also expanded with a grain milling facility. Around 1920, the wooden water wheel was replaced by an iron wheel and the oil pressing equipment was dismantled.
In September 1944, the mill was heavily damaged by wartime violence and during the restoration, it was not fully returned to its old state. In the early 1950s, the mill was shut down. Since 2010, the Rothemermolen has been owned by Habets Bouwgroep in Nuth and is once again capable of milling. Just before the water wheel, there is a branch in the Geulke that supplies the water areas of seven estates in the surrounding area with fresh water.
