The Utrechtse Heuvelrug has a total of about 400 prehistoric burial mounds. Many of them are not easy to find because they are overgrown with all kinds of plants and shrubs. But in several places the vegetation has been removed and the burial mounds for the hiker reappear, as in this place. The burial mounds date mainly from the New Stone Age and the Bronze Age, after around 4000 BC the first farmers settled on the moraine and in the floodplains of the Rhine. Especially the distinguished persons of the community were buried under burial mounds. The hills developed as a place of worship and remembrance.
