Hugo de Groot's birthplace was located at Oude Langendijk opposite the choir of the Nieuwe Kerk. Today, there is a gate leading to a courtyard named Huigh de Groothof. The street in this courtyard is called Maria van Reigersberchstraat, after Hugo's wife. Next to the entrance gate at Oude Langendijk, there hangs a plaque that commemorates the birthplace.
