De Knipmolen is a windmill in the Dutch municipality of Voorschoten. The mill is located on the Vliet in the Knippolder below Voorschoten, right opposite Duivenvoorde Castle.
It is a conical masonry polder mill with a thatched roof and with an outer paddle wheel. The head is approximately 0.85 meters. The flight is 14.50 meters.
The mill dates from 1814 and has been owned by the municipality of Voorschoten since the 60s. The polder has been managed by the Rijnland Water Board since 1979.
The Knippolder and the Knipmolen are already mentioned in 1641, so the current mill had a predecessor.
The Knipmolen is named after a former farriery annex inn on the Vliet near a so-called "squeeze", a narrowing in the Vliet, with a mudflat or ford there. At some point, a "gantel", i.e. a quack (bridge), was placed on that spot. Such a crossing is a logical place for an inn because at high tide one had to wait to be able to cross.
