Windlust is a tower mill in Wateringen, municipality of Westland. The grain mill on Heulweg was established in 1869, replacing an earlier post mill on the same site, where a mill has stood since 1326. The story goes that the neighbor of the miller, a notary, built a tall house right next to the mill. The miller then built a new mill "and made it so high that he could urinate into the notary's chimney from the platform." On November 14, 1880, the body was destroyed by fire and subsequently restored.
In the 1930s, the wind drive was disabled, and the mill fell into disrepair. A diesel engine took over the work of the mill. The platform was demolished in 1947, and the sails were removed in 1952. Windlust stood for almost twenty years without a platform and sails; in 1969, the body was purchased by the 'Stichting Vrienden van de Wateringse Molen' (Foundation Friends of the Wateringse Mill). On May 1, 1972, the fully restored mill was put back into use, with a single pair of stones.
The platform was replaced in 2008. Under the mill, there is an animal feed store that also sells flour.
The mill has the status of a national monument.
