The Groaveberg is an elevation of about 6 meters in the landscape along the Lange Pad (the oldest east-west connection in the Leudal). It is probably a motte, a man-made mound. In the past, the Groaveberg has led to many stories, such as that of a Roggel countess who was mistaken for a witch. When she died, the idea was to bury them in the Leudal valley and cover the grave so massively with sand that her spirit would never be able to get out. This is how the Groavinneberg was created, later corrupted into Groaveberg.
