The watermill on the Wittemer Allee was built in 1835 by the rentiers of Wittem Castle, the Merkelbach brothers. The mill was partly built over the stream, so that the water wheel is completely indoors. A reservoir was constructed upstream. For the required water, a stream was dug from the Selzerbeek further away.

This mill stream runs through the garden of Wittem Monastery. The reservoir also receives water from the castle pond which is fed by springs. In 1978, Stichting Het Limburgs Landschap bought and restored the mill and the accompanying house. The mill is currently no longer in operation. There is currently a holiday home on the first and second floors.
