Fort in the Botshol is located in a rich nature reserve of Natuurmonumenten.
History
Fort in the Botshol is the only fort of the Stelling whose defensible earthwork from 1895 has been preserved. The weak peat soil around Amsterdam made it necessary to first strengthen the soil with large amounts of sand. Also unique is the bridge behind the fort keeper's house, the middle part of which could be removed in times of danger.
Fort in the Botshol served to defend the access formed by the south quay of the Botshol and the dry strips in the Noorder-Zuiderpolder.
