The Work on the Waalse Wetering is part of the New Dutch Waterline and was built between 1875 and 1878.
The Werk aan de Waalse Wetering is located on the Island of Schalkwijk east of Tull and 't Waal on a higher part of the landscape. In the event of inundation, a narrow strip of land would hardly be flooded between the village centre of Schalkwijk and Tull en 't Waal. The potential enemy would be able to pass through the New Dutch Waterline via this ridge.
